Nissan Repair: Airconditioning, nissan sentra gxe, nissan sentra

Question
When I turn on my airconditioner in my 1995 Nissan Sentra (GXE)(4DR)(5SPD), the engine dies and the car cuts off when I come to a stop sign/red light and etc.  Per the advice of the local Nissan Dealer, I had a new AC idler pully put in and the car is still cutting off when I turn on the A/C.  What is the problem?

I would really appreciate your assistance.  I have no clue as to what to do next.  I have a small baby and I need to get the A/C fixed before the summer season sets in.

Thanks.

Answer
Kavetta,

The airconditioner compressor is failing and putting such a load on the engine that it dies.  Replace the compressor and the receiver dryer and the car will be fine.  Be sure to replace the receiver dryer since it has the small metal fragments that have broken loose from the compressor.  If not the new compressor will be damaged.  Also, most shops will not warranty the new compressor if the receiver dryer is not replaced.
