Nissan Repair: suspension, pep boys, lug nuts

Question
Sir,
When I brake at speeds greater than slow, my Altima shimmies.  I think it is coming from my front right wheel.  My lugs are tight.  It is getting worse as time goes on.  At first I thought it was my rotor, but I don't think it is. Any suggestions, anthing I should look at?  Thank you

Answer
Michael,

It sounds like your rotors are warped.  This can be caused by someone over tightening the lug nuts.  Check your owners manual for the proper torque.  I think yours are supposed to be set at 80 pound feet of torque.  Now, if you have less than 36K on the car and it is under three years old Nissan should cover it under a technical service bulletin.  But, if you are out of warranty you are on your own.  If it were me an it was out of warranty I would remove the rotors and simply have them turned if there is enough material.  normally, if the car has never had the rotors turned you can get one turning out of them.  After that you have to buy a new set.  Pep Boys have them for under $65 bucks each if you have to buy them.  If the pads are good you can get away with just replacement of the rotors or turning them without replacement of the pads.
