Porsche Repair: 930 wheels, market wheels, backspacing

Question
I would like to know the backspace requierments for after market wheels front and rear for a 930 and any additional info you might have on this subject thank you Shane

Answer
Hi Shane,

My gracious, if I only had a 930, all my friends would agree...BIG tires would be the first thing I'd check out:  I'd lay under the wheelwells at each corner of the car studying the clearance for backspacing and forward spacing, 'cause heavens knows, having big tires on a beautiful car like the 930 is a great idea!

Oh...I wish it were so.  Unfortunately, I don't own one; usually about the closest I get to one is when it screams past me on the freeway doing 85!

The best I can suggest is asking someone who owns one.  There are many forums on the internet that cover the 911 and 930, where owners and enthusiasts post messages asking questions of each other and getting answers to questions exactly like yours.

Usually you have to join the forum, which is merely registering a user id so it will recognize you each time you go back...but many times you can search the forum archives without even being a member.  Searching can work well and it can often also lead you on wild goose chases; because, while the topic might appear to be of interest to you, unless the question was the same one you'd ask, the answer might take many different forms.  So the most direct route is to sign up, ask the specifc question you want answered, and wait for some owner to say..."I've tried this and that and the best way is...."

Here are three forums among the many.  I suspect the thrid one will have the most definitive answers, but the PCA is pretty exclusive,,,they want membership $ fees before you join their club.  But maybe there's some free advice there...or even a contact name.  You'll find car owners are usually more than happy to talk about what they've done to their cars.
