RV Repair: Awning reinstall, roof structure, torsion

Question
I removed my awning to repair the roof structure and replace the roofing.  I need to reinstall the awning. I understand the procedure to get it back in the rail, but not how to know if the tension is correct.  It seemed to lose tension when I removed the rail (I could hear it spin).  Can I rewind if necessary or does the tension (torque) happen when I pull the awning out. I don't want to install twice.

The springs in the end of the roller tub are called torsion assemblies and will need to be rewound to a preset # then when the awning gets pulled out it tightens the spring. The winding direction is marked on the top of end caps. They will need to be prewound and pinned through the shaft before you can finish the mounting. Winding them can be very hazardous and painful because they tend to slip out of your grasp and try to eat your hand. Be very careful and go slow.
