I turned on my generator today.  I then turned on my overhead AC and it doesn't work.  It worked 2 weeks ago.  I also noticed that the clock on my microwave also doesn't work.

Can you help? (888) 272-8885

Joe,
It sounds like either the breaker on the generator itself is tripped or if you have an automatic transfer switch it may have went bad.  The transfer switch is usually located close to your 120 volt distribution panel.  If the breaker on the genset is not tripped you can check for incoming voltage at the transfer switch.  If you have 120 volts coming into it and nothing coming out it will need to be replaced.  If you don't have any voltage from the genset trace the wires back and check any connections.  If you don't find any bad connections you will probably need to have the generator checked out.  I hope this helps, good luck and happy camping.

The generator works fine.  It's the AC and clock on the microwave that don't work.  I'll try what you suggested.  If you have another suggestion, let me know.

THANKS.

Answer
Joe,
Depending on what size generator you have it could have 2 breakers and 1 of them could be tripped.  The breakers in your distribution panel could be tripped for these two appliances.  We have been seeing a lot of fan capacitors failing recently, but you should hear a hum when you turn it on usually if that's the case.  A power surge or lightning could have damaged them also.  Have you checked to see if you have power in the outlet that the microwave plugs into?  Do you have 2 roof a/c's? If so there could be a problem with the switch to change between them.  Let me know what you find and we will go from there.
