Saab Repair: 2000 Saab SE 9-5 blower motor repair, helicopter noise, blower motor

Question
Hi,

I have read a few of your comments about the replacement of the blower
motor. My first question is if I heard a grinding noise/helicopter noise prior
to it going out does this indicate it is in fact the blower motor? If not what
other issues could it be as the internal fans are not working and I want to
attempt to fix it myself to save a little money. Lastly, are there any sites you
can recommend to that detail where the blower motor is located within the
vehicle if that is the problem, I can not figure out where it is located.

Thanks for any insight to this.

Answer
The grinding noise could have been a leaf or something in the cage of the fan. You need to confirm that you have 12 volts at the fan. The fan is located under the hood. You'll need to remove the wiper arms, the cowl cover, the wiper motor, the cover over the blower motor and finally the motor itself.
