Saab Repair: 2002 Saab 9-3: brakes have lost efficacy, plastic vacuum, vacuum line

Question
Good afternoon,

Last week I noticed that my car all of a sudden takes much longer to come to
a complete stop than it did the very day before. I can slam on my brakes and
still be rolling to a stop. This happens at any speed, at any time of day. My
brake fluid is perfect...any ideas? Thanks!

Answer
Likely that the power booster has failed, or is filling up with oil due to a bad auxiliary pump.Get in car pump brakes 4-5 times. Keep your foot on the brake and start the engine. The pedal should drop a couple inches. If not then you have no power assist. You can also pull the plastic vacuum line off the booster and see if there is oil inside. If so it is coming from the pump and the booster and pump will need to be replaced.
