Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler Engine, kohler carburetor

Question
PK, I have a Bush Hog ZTR with 22HP Command Pro Engine. Skips as if flooding at idle. Runs better at full throttle but not smooth. Thought it was electrical so I've replaced the plugs, Rectifier regulator, and the ignition on the side that was skipping. If you pull the plug wire on the side that fires it will fire on the other side. I've Checked the fuel shut-off solenoid and that seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help. Answer
It sounds like the idle circuit in the carb may be a little stopped up.  I think I would go ahead and rebuild the carb being sure to clean it very well.  Spray cleaner probably won't fix things, it'll probably take a good soaking in a soak can for an hour or more or better yet, ultrasonic cleaning.  Then use a new carb kit to reassemble.

You could try spraying a little cleaner in the carb with the engine running and using SeaFoam in the gas.  My shop's recommendation is to use either SeaFoam or Techron in all gas and to only buy gas at stations with very good reputations.

Other things that could be wrong would be a sticky lifter or valve or other valvetrain problem and other head and combustion chamber trouble.  But usually what you describe is fuel supply related. And what with the ethanol-blended fuel we have to live with now and all the carburetor problems it has brought us, that's where I'd start.  Let me knoiw if you have any questions.  Thanks, PK.
