Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda 5.5 Horse Gx Electrical System, ac volts, honda engines

Question
I have an older Honda 5.5 Horse GX motor off of an air compressor that I put onto a go kart.  I was wondering if there was a way I could tap into the electrical system of the motor to power a battery charger hooked to a motorcycle battery so I can run some 12VDC power items(lights).  I have a decent knowledge of electrical and a little knowledge of small motors.  I am used to working on snowmobile motors and not quite so much small engines...  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Jon:

>>If the Engine has a Stator, then you can Attach a Battery to Run Lights and Other Accessories.
>>If No Stator, then you have to Change the Flywheel, and Install a Stator Under the Flywheel before you can have Lights and Accessories.
For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler, Honda and Other Engine OEMs.
>>You can Use this Site Addy; http://www.honda-engines-eu.com/en/welcome.html and Select Service Information from the Drop Down Menu of the Service Tab. Then Select Troubleshooting, Owner Manual or Shop Manual (whichever you are Looking for).
