I have a Sears B&S(model#130202,Type 0685-02) 5 H.P. Tiller Model #917.299440 purchased in 1981. I need some info regarding points replacement. Basically how and what to set the point gap at. I would also appreciate any info on web sites that have maintenance manuals available. Thank you

Answer
Hello Ken:

You can Purchase Manuals from Several Sites Online. Outdoor Distributors @ 1-877-707-2787 and Emrich Sales @ 1-518-399-8574 have a Good Selection and Price on the Service and Owners Manuals. To View a Breakdown of this Unit Go to this Site Addy, http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Search. From this Page you can View Diagrams and Parts Lists for you Equipment Using the "View Sub Components" Section. The Point Set is Located Under the Flywheel, Usually Under an Aluminum Cover. The Point Set is Gapped (Using a Blade Style Feeler Gauge) to .020in with the Point Set Plunger in the Full Out Position.  The Following is a General Instruction File for Checking the Flywheel Key. It is the Basics and if you have a Question, Please Ask. ***Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). Remove the Flywheel Nut or Starter Cup (Depends on the Model). Now Attach a Steering Wheel Puller to the Flywheel Using the Threaded Holes in the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller. Now Hit the Puller with a Hammer. Repeat this Procedure Until the Flywheel Pops Up or can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft. On Some Models you Can Not Use a Puller and Must Use a Pry Bar and a Pipe Cap that is Slightly Larger than the Crankshaft. Place the Pipe Cap Over the Crankshaft to Protect it. Place the Pry Bar Under the Thick Section of the Flywheel and Pull Up Against the Flywheel. **BE CAREFUL  DO NOT PUT A HOLE IN THE BLOCK UNDER THE FLYWHEEL** Now Hit the Pipe Cap that is on the Crankshaft (covered with the Pipe Cap). Repeat the Procedure Until the Flywheel can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft. *** Now Remove the Point Set Cover and Replace the Point Set. Use the Plastic Spring Compressor Provided with the Replacement Point Set to Compress the Spring on the Condenser to Release/Attach the Wires to/From the Condenser. Now Replace the Key Between the Flywheel and Crankshaft and Reverse the Procedure. Be Sure you have the Flywheel Torqued to at Least 00 - 00 Foot Pounds. The Key Times the Plug Firing and is Not Designed to Hold the Flywheel from Turning on the Crankshaft. The Flywheel Nut or Starter Clutch Torque Does that. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/doclist.aspx?categ... and Enter the Model Numbers (130202) and Type Numbers (0685) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF. The Point Set (#375) is Shown on Page 3 of 22 in the Breakdown File. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
