Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere Mower JS63C, washington dc metro, dc metro area

Question
Hi John,

I was mowing the lawn and I hit a small tree stump dead on.  Stopped the mower cold.  A local handyman told me he thinks I popped the key.  I think maybe he means something is wrong with the flywheel key.  I don't want to be taken advantage of at the shop.  One repairman already told me (without seeing mower) that the crankshaft is certainly bent and to throw the mower away (it is not that old).  Would you have any idea how much a flywheel key repair should run?  Everything is higher here--I live in the Washington DC metro area.

Answer
 Hello Linda:

I Viewed a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower and the Time to Replace the Flywheel Key is 1 Hour. The Shop Rate is Usually around $40.00 to $50.00 for your Area. You might get Lucky and it will be Less. Can you Remove the Spark Plug and Tilt the Mower with the Plug Hole Up. Turn the Engine and Watch the Center Blade Bolt. If the Bolt Wobbles More than 1/8", then the Crankshaft is Bent and a New Mower will be Required. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Tanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
