QUESTION: The damage to steering lock is inside the column. The link arm that the actuater on the switch goes in feels like not connected to anything.no matter what position the link wheel stil turns.I am not concerned about it not locking with the key,my concern is that whatever is broken may jam the steering at some point? I really do not want to rip the tilt assembly apart.

Answer
Please post or send a photo so I know which design Jeep column you have.  If it is the actuator I am hoping, we have parts and instructions.  If it an older design, then you will need to replace the column assemble.  A photo will help me tell you which design you have.
