Steering Column Repair: 2000 silverado ignition, brake shift interlock, pin switch

Question
QUESTION: I have a 00 silverado 1500 4.8 engine. 180k mls. riding down the road or sitting at idle, the power(electrical) stops working for a moment. jiggle the ignition power returns, all ok. pretty sure it is the ignition switch. the question i have is, there is a 10 pin and a 14 pin ignition available, about a 30 dollar difference, not sure how to identify witch one i would need. i would greatful for a direction to go in. thank you in advance for your time and expertise on this.

ANSWER: Hi David:

Based on the limited information you gave me, I assumed it was a 4wd and an automatic.  If those assumptions are correct, the GM part # is 26098763 and the price form a dealer should be approx. $145 retail and $85-$90 wholesale

I hope this helps

QUESTION: It is an automatic but not a 4wd. Sorry for the novice mistake. Still have the question of how do you identify which pin switch you need and why.

Answer
Hi David:

It's still the same switch.  The pin count is in reference to how many electrical connections are in the hardshell plug on the end of the switch.  Some have brake shift interlock and/or passkey and thus the additional wire (or pin) connections
