Steering Column Repair: 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD Crew Cab, chevy silverado, 2005 chevy silverado

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD Crew Cab.  You turn off the vehicle and remove the key from the ignition.  The steering wheel does not lock (like all my other GM's).  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you, Cathi

Hi Cathi:

GM began discontinuing locking the steering column in about 2004-2005 on various models and by2007 none of them have it.  Since you have an antitheft system in the vehicle, this was one way for them to reduce costs as there was no need to lock it anymore.  The shifter locking mechanism remains, but the steering does not.
