Steering Column Repair: 2001 ford mustang column, speed std, ford mustang

Hi,i have a ford mustang 2001 5 speed std,3.8, v6 car i was my dad house for the day and when i went out the house realy to get my car to go home ,i found a guy that was trying to steal my car i catch on him but he ran away as fast as he can ,i was checking at my car to see if he had stolen something but everything was there i think he wanted to steal the car but he did a lot of damage on the steering column where the key goes ,he broke everything including the little black box that goes around the key cylinder i have got a new column for a ford mustang 2002 gt 5 speed,std,5.6,v8 car they say it will work if i change the whole column but i have to program the key thats where i need you help guys do i really have to program the key from the gt mustang of i could just change the part and turn on please let me noe thanks.

Hello Steven:

Sorry about your car.
If the black transponder box was broken during the theft attempt, you will need to replace it with a NEW transceiver.  I believe you will then have to have the car towed to the dealer to have the new transceiver programmed to your key, but I did have one once where it did not need programming, it just needed to be installed.
You can put the steering column in, but YOU CANNOT USE A USED TRANSCEIVER...it has to be new
