Steering Column Repair: column, automatic transmissions, standard transmission

I have a 76 chev. trk. I put a 4 spd trans in. Can I mod the exist. column to get the low gear? I am very mechanicaly inclined and I have all tools nessary. Can I just notch the stop at the end of the column to work. Thanks....Steve

Hi Steve:

You don't say, but I need to know if you are talking about both automatic transmissions or is one a standard transmission.  If they are both automatic, then yes.  Just allow more room at the end of the tube for the shaft and lever to move further and you will be fine.
If on the other hand, the new 4 spd is a std trans then no.
