Subaru Repair: Sluggish Transmission?, Subaru Transmission problem

My 97 Legacy Brighton AWD wagon seems to be missing first gear when starting
out cold. Accelerate and nothing happens for a few seconds then wham it
downshifts and you are off to the races. When sluggish the rpms don't go up it
is like a dead zone. Dealer says transmission needs replacing. Other mechanic
says drive it -- when it dies we'll fix it. Any thoughts?

Hey Rodney,

Subaru Transmissions can work for a while with symptoms, but they can also quit working very suddenly with out much warning.  Has any one looked at the data from the transmission control module? Most likely the pump pressure is low has anyone measured the line pressure?
