Towing Issues: Towing Vehicle and Horse Trailer, illinois dmv, horse slant

Question
I operate a F-350 dually and tow a 4 horse slant trailer for private use.  I can't get a good answer as to what class of driver's license I need in the state of IL.  The trailer is over 10,000 lbs GVWR and the combined weight of the vehicles does not exceed 26,000 GCVW.  I have been told I need a CDL and I have been told a Class D IL license is satisfactory.

Answer
I would check with Illinois DMV as they would be the ones who "know" the correct classes of licenses for what you do..

This is one of those areas where the truck and trailer combination does get into the "CDL" areas by definition but as a private vehicle not moving stuff for hire then it does not generally require the CDL..

Good luck
