Towing Issues: car towed, vehicle license plates, tow company

Question
My 97 Saturn was out back of my condo at the curb without the personalized
licensed plates on it.  I was going to drop off my plates to AAA (which I did
on Monday) but during the weekend it was towed.   I was going to donate the
car to any organization but I can't since it was towed.  I don't know who
towed it and I'm concern about liability against my name.  Could this cost me
any money out of pocket?

Answer
Well the answer to cost you money is "YES, NO, MAYBE" as it depends on the state laws where you are located at... That very important information is missing...

I question the statement you made "take your plates and turn them in at AAA" as far as I know AAA does not handle licensing and registrations of vehicles...

As to the donation of the vehicle well that is on hold now as you stated as the charity will not pay the towing fees now to get it out.

Heck a lot of tow companies who do the donation towing of vehicles do charge the charity for the services as the costs of towing now have skyrocketed with the fuel prices...

Now some states have laws where the tow company can go after the vehicle owner with collection agencies for unpaid towing fees, some states allow the tow company to notify DMV and that results in your vehicle license plates or drivers license to be suspended till the fees are paid... It all depends on the laws of your state...

Check with the tow company and see what they say, and try to work with them about this issue. But do it fast as the storage (ground rental) add up quickly as it increases daily.

Sorry for the real lack of a "SOLID ANSWER", but I can not see clearly in my crystal ball
