Triumph Repair: window to soft top seal, constant rain, bolt holes

Question
Jim

I skimmed through your previous answers listing and can't find one that deals with my question so here goes ...

We have a '75 Spit 1500 that we have been working on for a few years.  Just had a new soft top installed yesterday and the windows do not seal to the top.  Shop employee suggested roll down windows, close door and roll up - fine when in the car but in the drive???  We have replacement inner and outer door seals (rubber and fuzzy) but I have a feeling that I need to adjust the glass to fit the top as the glass wobbles (in and out)more than I think is correct and the top rear of each window appears low (front top won't seal on the rubber door and winsshield seal.

Thanks much for your assistance - you are obviously a talented and knowledgeable fellow who has a pasion for SBCs!

Answer
John,

What's a soft top?

Just kidding.. too many years of autocrossing the dedicated race car.... no windshield either.  :D

If you pull the inner door panel you can access the bolts that hold the window winder and the window tracks in place.  There is a bit of room to adjust them within the bolt holes in the door inner skin.

I'm sure my Bentley manual has some good words of wisdom on how to accomplish the tweaks... unfortunately I'm 900 miles away from it at the moment.

The best I can offer is to try some "trial and error" moves to see what fits.  Depending upon how the top fits, you might have to get used to leaving the windows down just a bit in order to close the doors from the outside.

Unfortunately, for a car that comes from a country with constant rain they never really did a good job of sealing the top.

I prefer the term "LBC"... SBC makes me feel like I work for AT&T.

Cheers,

Jim
