UK Car Repair: vauxhall vectra 2.5 v6 cam belt, vauxhall vectra, crank shaft

Question
Where can i find a diagram of how the belt is fitted, I have a mechanic doing this however we cannot find a hayns manual locally.

The car is on R reg,97/98 2.5 v6 vectra.  The car was stationary but tickin over and then cut out and would not start but turns over.

Answer
Hi
V6 timing has to be done with special tools as the timing marks on the engine are only as a reference.
You have to follow a certain fitting, tensioning and aligning procedure using the marks on the special tool. There are three tensioners and have to be set in a certain way to ensure the timing is correct.
I dont see the relevance of the car not starting unless the cam belt has snapped, in which case I'd respectfully suggest that if your mechanic needs a Haynes manual then I doubt if he is up to the job of a V6 engine strip and rebuild which is what would be required if the belt has snapped, no offence intended.
The most common reason for non start on this engine (assuming the cam belt has not snapped) is the crank shaft sensor failing.
