Dodge: Tie rod ends, air impact wrench, tie rod ends

Question
Do I need any special tools to replace the outer tie rod ends on my '02 Dodge Durango. And How much work will it be to do myself. I have plenty of time to work on it

Answer
They make special tools for it, but you really don't need any special tools, except a big pipe wrench (monkey wrench) will make it a lot easier to get them turning. You may need an air impact wrench to loosen the king nuts if the balljoint is spinning. Spray them down a day ahead of time with wd40 or PB Blaster to help loosen them up a little bit.

Depending on how "rusted on" they are, it isn't a very difficult job. Jack the vehicle up. Remove the tire if you want for more room. Just remove the cotter pins, remove the king nut, then remove the tierod end, then reverse for install. Make sure to use a new cotter pin. You really should get an alignment afterward. Double check where they are adjusted currently and try to get the new ones as close as possible.
