Dodge: 97 Dodge Caravan 3.3L Transmission, dodge caravan, 2 quarts

Question
I have a 97 Dodge Caravan with a tranmission leak.  I have had an issue recently where I will get a surge while driving down the road.  In addition, I have had acceleration issues after coming to a stop and trying to take off again, the van loses acceleration power.  It is as if it has slipped out of gear.  I discovered I had a transmission leak and was 1-1/2 quarts low.  I added the approprieate trans fluid, but still have the leak.  The acceleration surge seems to be corrected. Could the leak be where the filters are?  Are there hoses that could be leaking?  Is the transmission shot?  How much would it cost to fix?  Is it worth it?

Answer
The surge can be caused by insufficient amount of fluid. It's hard to say where it could be leaking without seeing it,My advice would be to take it to a garage and let them put it on a lift and show you where the leak is.It only has one filter on the bottom of the transmission. The cost to fix it depends on who you use to do the work and it can be very expensive.I know from here it costs around $1700.00 if it needs it,it may just be a simple leak. But i would suggest if it's a leak get the leak fixed before you let them talk you into believing it needs to be rebuilt because most garages will tell you this just for the extra money.
