Ford: 96 explorer not starting, dirty fuel, coil pack

Question
Over the past 6 or so months, my truck would not start unless I tried 2-5 times, then it would start.  This was about once every 2 weeks, sometimes hot and sometimes cold.  I tried putting better gas and it seemed to stop happening as much.  Today however, not the case, it turns over strong but will not start.  I tried turning the ignition on, waiting for the fuel pump, then turning it over, same thing though.  It is a 96 xlt explorer, 2wd, auto, 6 cyl.  I live in Florida so it is not cold, and has not been raining lately.  I have had the truck for a little over a year and this is the first problem I am having aside from a broken belt tensioner.  Please let me know if you have any ideas.  Thank you.  curtis

Answer
Curtis,
I can give you a few ideas, here, but you should have the vehicle scanned on a computer. Nowadays, if one item in the engine isnt working, then the vehicle will not run right.

Probable causes.
1. weak fuel pump
2. dirty fuel filter
3. coil pack weak on igntion spark.
4. dirty fuel injectors.
I would have a mechanic look at it. Thanks,
