Honda: suggestions for 1996 Honda Civic (coupe) modifications, honda civic coupe, cat back exhaust

Question
1996 Honda Civic coupe (mt)

Hi,

Currently, I only have an AEM short ram intake, NGK platinum plugs, and NGK wires; it's not much but they were relatively easy purchases.  Now, the questions:

1.) Do you have any brand suggestions for a header AND cat back exhaust system? I'm on a budget and thus don't want to spend enormous amounts on either.  I hear Magnaflow is great for the price (lifetime warranty; quality construction; great sound, etc), but would like to check out other options. Any other recommendations?  As for the header, I've noticed that the DC Sports header is pretty popular.  I'm looking for aggressive sound, but nothing too loud and won't attract all the cops in town.

2.) How much horsepower should I expect to gain from the header and cat back?  I hear up to 20 hp would be a reasonable estimate. Is this accurate?

3.) What size opening would you recommend for the cat back exhaust pipe?  Would a Civic require a narrower pipe for optimum performance? (the issue of having SOME backpressure being beneficial)

4.) What else can I do to improve performance?Turbos, superchargers, and NOS are out of the question. I won't consider them.

Well, you implied that you're a honda performance nut, so I'd love to hear what you have to say.   Thanks a lot for your time!

Answer
DC Sports headers are quite good you do get a good power gain usually 10-20 horsepower and they sound great. Get a 3 and a half exhaust for the civic it gives a little more power and looks better you can also get a tip to finish off the look it is your choice how big the exhaust tip will be chrome looks good. You could add a computer chip to the engine as it has a 20-25 horsepower gain. I hope I have answered your questions. If you need anymore help with honda performance please feel free to ask. Kind regards Dean Thomas.
