Hyundai: 2006 Hyundai Sonata brake lights, 2006 hyundai sonata, brake light switch

Question
I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata V6 automatic trans.  I have a problem with my brake lights.  When I step on the brake, the two outer lights in the fenders go on, but the two inner ones in the trunk do not go on and neither does the center light in the back window.  I tried changing lamps and it did not help, also I looked for a lamp in the center light and only found wiring plugging into it. Turn signals and back-up lights, license plate lights, and regular tail lights all work properly.  Is this possibly a fuse problem, or an electrical code problem?  Thank you for your help.  I really need it!

Answer
Hi Al,

Allot of Hyundai Sonatas seem to have this problem. Just to be safe, check your brake light fuse under the panel. If the fuse is fine then it must be the wire going to the rear. Check the brake light switch on the brake pedal linkage, because if it is not supplying 12-volts to the brake lights, the result would be the problems you describe. If everything looks good then you should check the wiring harness to the brake lights located in the trunk of your car in a panel or the ground connection between the tail light assembly and the fender. Clean the mounting surfaces or add an extra ground wire from the tail-light housing to the frame. It may just be easier to have it professionally done.
