Mazda: mazda familia 96 leakage, rust damage, mazda familia

Question
Hi, My mazda familia 96 has treated me fine until now, after a sustained period of medium to light rain I discovered that water had accumulated in my car boot (I noticed this because a corner of my boot carpet had become wet, when I lifted it up I found the spare tyre to be buried in water), so naturally I emptied the boot of water, checked the seals (which I found no obvious flaw), and tried to dry it out a bit. But now I have a kind of mildewy smell in my car, and only today I found that under the passenger and driver's seat is wet also. What do you think is the cause of my problem and what do you think I should do to dry out the car? I hate to think of what rust damage could be caused. Thankyou for any help you can offer.

Answer
You will not experience any rust damage at this early stage in the game. However, the mildew smell can be troublesome. It is sometimes very difficult to get rid of. Do a thorough job of drying the car. AC actually dries air as it cools it, so having the ac on will help to dry the car as well.

Is your car a hatch back? If so, check to see if there are any drain holes around the sealing area of the hatch. If so, they may be plugged. It is also possible that the rear window is leaking.
