Mercedes: 1999 sl 500, fuel pump relay, fuel pumps

Question
1999 sl 500 ran fine then after a large rain, engine will turn over but not fire. Could it be moister?  What can I look for to solve this problem?

Answer
Byron,
It sounds like the you have had water splash in the engine compartment. I would look for signs of water in the distributor or in the electrical wiring.
To determine if it is an injector fuel pump problem, you can remove the air cleaner and squirt a very small amount of auto starting fluid in the intake throat.
If the engine starts momentarily, then you have a problem with your fuel deliver system.
Water in the gas, clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump relay, or bad pumps.

When the ignition is on there should be a sound from the fuel pumps near the gas tank.

Good Luck
