Mercedes: 1990 300d warning lights, replacement fuses, aluminum strip

Question
Hi, I am having troubles with my warning lights not always coming on when the ignition key is turn on, and sometimes the lights will briefly glow when the engine is revd up then i've also had the lights again briefly glow when coming to a stop and the engine revs down, and too there's been several times when the battery light will briefly glow, and 'glow' meaning the light does not fully light-up, thanks for the help Kevin

Answer
Kevin,

With age, auto electrical develop corrosion. I would begin at the fuse holder. If you have ceramic bullet fuses, I would replace all these fuses making sure that you get the correct color for the proper circuit. I would clean with fine sand paper the holders. Also if any of the fuses use an aluminum strip, I would purchase copper replacement fuses. I have seen some good deals on these fuses in bulk on EBAY.
Next I would remove the battery cables and clean the battery terminals and post. If the battery is old I would purchase a new battery. Next, I would locate the grounding wires on the car and take these loose and clean the joints.
If you are still having this issue, I would then have the alternator output checked.

Good Luck
Rob
