Question
Have a 1996 Pontiac Sunfire with 80,000 miles. Daughter was about to drive the car at night when she noticed the headlights did not come on when she turned the switch, only the parking lights. The driving lights(a little dimmer) come on when its in gear but thats all.Also the brights dont stay on when you switch them on. Checked the bulbs and they seem to be ok.  Is problem in switch on column?

The problem is most likely in the frnot light harness. There are splices that corrode and cause this problem. There was a recall for this problem. Contact your local Pontiac dealer and ask them about it. If it is one of the cars covered under the recall, they will fix it at no charge to you.
