Suzuki: hard starting Sammy, engine cranks, bone stock

Question
I have a bone stock 1987 Samurai with 97K miles. As of late it has become hard to start. Specifically, the engine cranks significantly longer (than it used to) then it eventually will start. It idles normally and doesn't appear to suffer from a loss of power. While I would normally suspect mild flooding, Im not convinced this is entirely the case. Any other thoughts/suggestions would be sincerely appreciated
Thanks

Answer
Usually deteriorating ignition performance is the culprit, however, if you pump the pedal one or two times in starting does it start sooner, or later.  Sooner would be an indication that the choke is not on enough for the temperature, and later would indicate it's on too much for the temp.  This is for cold starts.  If you're talking hot restart, then see if depressing the pedal helps.  Hot restart is a common shortcoming of carburetors in general, and is usually not an adjustment issue.
