Suzuki: suzuki samurai, suzuki samurai, strobe light

Question
how do you set the timing on a samurai

Answer
you use a timing light, (which is a strobe light triggered by the firing of the front spark plug) to visually "freeze" the rotation of the motor.  The mark is on the front pulley, and the scale is on the plastic cover of the timing belt.  timing is adjusted by loosening the clamp bolt of the distributor and (while the engine is running) rotating the distributor housing until the pulley mark lines up with the appropriate mark on the scale.
