Suzuki: bigger shackles, rubber spacers, suzuki samurai

Question
i have a 1988 suzuki samurai with the sprung over lift and i was thinking about puting bigger shackles on it but not sure if the shackles would hurt it or not

Answer
It will change how the steering behaves when braking.  A two inch longer shackle will result in a one inch lift at the wheel.  Check to make sure the shocks, brake lines, and driveshafts and u-joints aren't adversely affected.  As a general rule, it's an inexpensive way to lift an inch or two.  Also consider the possibility of a body lift, which consists of putting thicker rubber spacers between the body and frame.
