Tips on Buying Cars: Lease, michigan state attorney general, state attorney general

Question
QUESTION: Jeff,

Last night I walked the lot of a Toyota dealership wanting to test drive a Hybrid Camry... I was later sucked into signing papers for a 3 yr lease.  After leaving I left with a bad feeling in my stomach and not happy about what I did.  This morning I went back to the dealership telling them I did not want the vehicle.  They gave me the run around telling me I am stuck with the car.

Is there anything I can do?

ANSWER: I need a little more info:

1) What state do you live in?
2) Did you leave them any money, and in what form?  Cash, check or credit card?
3) Did you actually take delivery of the vehicle last night, or is it still at the dealership?

Your answers will make a big difference in how we pursue this.

Answer
The fact that you took delivery makes it almost impossible to return the car and back out of the deal.  At this point, you'd have to prove fraud on the part of the dealership, or a mistake in the paperwork.  Pour over the lease agreement- is there any place that anyone (you or the dealer) forgot to sign or initial?  Is there anything they failed to disclose?  You could contact the Michigan state attorney general and ask if they can be of any assistance, or if they can direct you to someone that helps with these matters.  I live in New York state, and we do have a 3-day return period for products here, but only if you purchased the vehicle off the dealers' premise. In other words, if they came to your house to close the transaction, or if they had a tent sale at the local shopping mall and you bought the car there.  If the entire sale took place at the dealership, then the 3-day return rule wouldn't apply.
