Tips on Buying Cars: Auto dealer Retail Installment Sale Contract, americredit, car 2000

Question
I am in a similar situation with another person you have answered here. I live in Northern California, and just purchased a 2005 Pontiac from a Toyota dealer in Davis CA. I bought the car on Sept. 05, 2008. The dealer contacted me a couple of weeks later and asked if I could pay off the 2 existing car loans that I had. I said yes, but wouldn't be able to cover the $3000 check they were holding for my downpayment. They told me to pay off both existing car loans, and that I could get a better loan with only $1500 down. I did this, and sent them proof of the payoffs. They called and told me everything was a done deal, and needed me to sign a new contract with less down. I agreed, and so they sent one of their sales guys to my job so I could sign. A couple of weeks later, I received a phone call from Americredit welcoming me, and explaining to me that I would be receiving paper work and my payment would be due on Oct. 30, 2008. Well, I never received any paperwork, so I phoned Americredit and was told I had no loan with them because there was a problem with a signature on the contract so they sent it back to the dealer to be fixed but never got it back and so my loan had "expired"? I notified the dealer, and needless to say they acted shocked. They now want this car back 2 months after signing the first contract and driving it home. 1 month after signing the second contract. They claim they cannot find me financing now? My issue is that I have replaced the rear bumper that was damaged when I bought the car ($2000), and done some performance/appearance upgrades ie: exhaust system, tint, tune ($2800) plus the my downpayment of ($1500). I have out of my pocket around $6000 plus for a car I thought was mine! The dealer says they wont take a payment for the car as they do not do in house financing. I cant find myself a lender because of my credit situation. Don't they only have 10 days to cancel this contract? What rights do I have to this car if any now? What about all of the money I have invested in this car now? Please help me here..... I have the car locked in my garage at the moment for fear they will try to repossess it before I can try to get them to repay me for all that I have spent on this car. Thanks for any words, Jay :)
