Tires: Dry rot, ozone level, tire dry rot

Jack, What makes a tire dry rot? Especially on an RV.

The dry rot you speak of is caused by the Sun.  We call it ozone rotting.  We test tires every day by exposing them to 50 times the normal ozone level.  The only thing that will save your tires from this is to cover them with dark plastic.  Are better yet keep them in an air tight bag out of the light.
