R134 Capacity for a 1995 Honda Civic

In 1995, the Honda Civic was one of the more versatile compact cars on the road, thanks to its wide array of engines and three distinct body styles: coupe, hatchback and sedan. Air conditioning was an available option on all three body styles, and the systems all used R-134a refrigerant to help keep things cool. When recharging the air conditioning system, you must always be mindful of the total capacity of the system.

R-134a Capacity

  • The 1995 Honda Civic coupe and sedan have an R-134a capacity of 17.6 to 19.4 ounces. The hatchback holds slightly less refrigerant, at between 17 and 18 ounces.

Charging to Pressure

  • In a perfect world, charging the air conditioning system to a specific pressure is possible, but this is not the correct way to charge the system. If there is a restriction in the system, a failing compressor, or a number of other issues, the reported pressures may not be accurate. This inaccurate pressure reading may result in over- or under-charging the system and end in damage to the air conditioning system. You should always fully evacuate the system, recharge it to the specified weight, then check that the pressures are within specification.

It's illegal in many states to vent refrigerant to the atmosphere, so have the system evacuated by a licensed facility.
