How to Remove a Dodge Headlight Lens

A damaged headlight on your Dodge can lead to a variety of problems. In many regions, police officers will pull you over and give you a ticket for having a cracked or broken headlight lens. This condition can also make driving at night very unsafe. Removing a damaged headlight lens on your Dodge vehicle is fairly simple and should take about 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Headlight lens replacement
  • Disengage the ignition of your Dodge. Remove the key from the ignition. If the car has been running recently, allow about 30 minutes for the headlight apparatus to cool down.

  • Directly to the right of the steering column, above the cigarette lighter, there is a switch with a picture of a hood opening. Click this switch. Go to the front of the vehicle and lift and prop up the hood securely. Be sure to lock the hood in place as serious injury can occur if the hood falls down.

  • On Dodge vehicles made before 1999, you will need to pull off a rubber seal above the headlight lens that you wish to replace. This rubber piece should come off easily by pulling both sides at the same time. On newer Dodge vehicles made after 1999, there will be no rubber piece. After gaining entrance to the headlight lens apparatus, take the Phillips screwdriver and remove the screws holding the apparatus in place. Depending on the model of the vehicle, you will have between four and eight screws.

  • With the screws removed, take off the headlight assembly cover. You will now have access to the headlight lens cover. Remove the cover and replace it with a new cover designed for your vehicle. Replace the cover and reinsert the screws.
