If you are looking for a bit more functionality for your truck or SUV, you may want to consider installing a towing hitch. A towing hitch allows you to hook up a trailer to the back of your vehicle, which makes it easy to carry additional cargo with your vehicle. While this process will require you to do some work under and around your vehicle, it is easy enough that you should be able to install the hitch without the need of a mechanic.
Jack up the rear of the car, so that you can get underneath it. Make sure the car is securely placed on the jack to avoid any injuries or damage.
Remove the bolts which hold any tie plates to the rear underside of the vehicle (on both the driver's and the passenger's side of the vehicle) using the 3/8-inch ratchet set. You should be left with metal plates with holes in them; these will be used for attaching the hitch.
Place the hitch over the two metal plates (make sure it slides under your vehicle), with the trailer portion facing out from the rear. Screw as many bolts into the hitch kit as you can when attaching it to the vehicle. Don't fully tighten them at this point.
Push the attached hitch toward any bolt hole that it has not lined up with by using the pry bar as a lever between the hitch kit and the side of the vehicle. When the bolt holes line up with the hitch, place the remaining bolts into the hitch.
Tighten all of the bolts with the ratchet in order to secure the trailer hitch to the car. Gently lower the car back to the ground.
