How to Remove a Passenger Seat from a Prius

The popularity of the Toyota Prius helped to spur the growth of the hybrid automobile industry, and changed the way people think about cars. Like any other vehicle, people like to customize the Prius and add stereos, wheels and custom suspension mods. If you have to take out the passenger seat to install an amplifier or swap out the carpet, for example, it can be done in just a few minutes with simple hand tools and some time.

Things You'll Need

  • 3/8-inch ratchet and socket set
  • Open the passenger side door and locate the seat bolts underneath the seat. There are plastic covers on the bolts that can be removed with a little force from your hands.

  • Unbolt the seat from the floor using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

  • Tilt the seat forward and unplug the wiring harness that runs to the seat using your hands. Push down on the tab in the middle of the harness and pull the two wires apart.

  • Place your left hand on the headrest area of the seat and your right hand on the bottom of the seat. Lift the seat up, using your legs to take pressure off your back, and pull the seat out of the car.
