The 2000 Explorer is a sport utility vehicle designed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company. The Explorer is equipped with an air conditioning system. The AC system blows cool air into the cabin, making the cabin comfortable during hot weather. The AC system uses refrigerant to cool the air before within the system. If the Explorer has a slow refrigerant leak, the AC system will not work efficiently. When you notice the air conditioner is blowing out hot or warm air, you should recharge the system. The AC system can be recharged using a recharge kit purchased at a local auto part store. The recharge kit must be used with the low side service port. It's important to learn the proper way to locate and service the low side port.
Park the 2000 Explorer on a level surface and turn the engine off. Remove the key from the ignition and allow the vehicle to cool for a half hour.
Open the hood of the Explorer. Pull the hood release lever located within the driver side door underneath the steering column.
Locate the AC low side port. The low side port is found on the passenger side of the engine compartment. The low side service fitting runs from the suction accumulator to the AC compressor. The fitting has a black cap on it.
Attach the recharge hose to the low side port. The hose will click when secured. Turn the ignition key to turn the engine on. Turn the AC setting to the highest available setting. Allow the recharge kit to charge the system.
Turn the engine off when the recharge kit is finished. Pull the recharge hose off of the low side fitting. Close the hood of the Explorer.
