How to Service an AC Low Side Port on a 2000 Ford Explorer

The 2000 Explorer is a sport utility vehicle designed and manufactured by Ford Motor Company. The Explorer is equipped with an air conditioning system. The AC system blows cool air into the cabin, making the cabin comfortable during hot weather. The AC system uses refrigerant to cool the air before within the system. If the Explorer has a slow refrigerant leak, the AC system will not work efficiently. When you notice the air conditioner is blowing out hot or warm air, you should recharge the system. The AC system can be recharged using a recharge kit purchased at a local auto part store. The recharge kit must be used with the low side service port. It's important to learn the proper way to locate and service the low side port.

Things You'll Need

  • R134a Recharge kit
  • Park the 2000 Explorer on a level surface and turn the engine off. Remove the key from the ignition and allow the vehicle to cool for a half hour.
