2002 Mitsubishi Lancer Dash Removal

The Lancer is a four-door family-style car manufactured by Mitsubishi that made its debut in 1973. You can remove the dash from your 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer right at home. You may want to replace the dash if it has become cracked or worn from age and sun exposure, or you may need to access certain electronic components by removing the dashboard. Whatever the reason, you only need a few tools and supplies that can be found at any auto parts store. You should be able to complete the job in an hour or less.

Things You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Pop the hood and remove the negative cable from the battery with a wrench. Set it aside but don't let it touch the positive terminal.

  • Open the fuse panel cover on the driver's side dash and remove the airbag fuse with the fuse pullers. The airbag fuse can be located by examining the diagram on the back of the fuse panel cover.

  • Open the glove box and remove all the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Slide the glove box out.

  • Find and detach all the screws securing the lower dash. Remove the lower dashboard panel.

  • Remove the face of your radio by prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver. Detach the screws holding it in place, using the Phillips screwdriver, and pull the radio out. Unplug all the wiring behind it.

  • Remove all screws from the top of the dashboard. Pull the dash toward you and unplug the wiring behind it.

  • Slide the dash out of the Lancer through the side door.
