Fuse Box Location in a Ford Contour V6

Replacing a fuse in a vehicle is a basic process. That is, if you are able to locate the fuse box in the first place. Not every manufacturer places the fuse box in the same, standard place. To complicate matters, some vehicles, like the Ford Contour, have more the one fuse box buried out of site and difficult to locate without an automotive manual. The mystery of the location of the Contour's fuse boxes is unveiled here.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Open the driver's-side door with the key in the ignition switch but in the "Off" position. Lie on the floor in front of the driver's seat and listen for the warning bell sounding. This noisemaker is attached to the bottom of the fuse box. Locate the fuse box by following the sound to the fuse box (under the dash, near the steering wheel column). There will be wires running in and out of it.

  • Reach up to the right side of the box and locate a black button. Push this button towards the passenger side of the car. The fuse panel will drop down, allowing easy access to the fuses. Remove the key from the ignition switch once the fuse panel is located.

  • Push the panel back into place until it "clicks" into place, when finished.

  • Open the engine hood, and locate the battery. Beside the battery is a black box. This is referred to as the "power distribution" box, which contains additional fuses and electrical components relating to distribution of power throughout the vehicle. Lift the cover open with a screwdriver to access the components inside. Snap the cover closed when finished.
