How to Connect a Car Horn

When you replace the horn on your vehicle you can mount the new horn in the same place and use the wire that powered the stock horn. You only need a positive and negative wire, which are already installed in the vehicle, to power the horn. All you will need to install the new horn is one tool and about 10 minutes. You can buy the replacement horn at an auto store and install it in your driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Disconnect the battery cable from the positive connection before proceeding. This will keep you from getting shocked.

  • Mount the horn onto the fire wall using the screw that mounted the stock horn. Tighten the screw using the Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Loosen the two securing screws on the connectors for the power wires using the Phillips head screwdriver. Insert the positive wire into the positive connector and tighten the securing screw on the connector using the screwdriver. Connect the negative wire to the negative connector the same way that you connected the positive wire.
