Recommended Services for Toyotas

Toyota recommends specific services for their vehicles, typically based on how many miles have been driven and the age of the vehicle. In some cases, these services will need to be repeated once a new milestone has been reached. Of course, the average service schedule of changing the oil every 3,000 miles still applies, but there are a few other services you will need to have done on your Toyota vehicle periodically.

To make it easier, you can divide the recommended services into three classifications.

Type One Services

  • These are the standard services that most of us have done on our vehicle every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. It will help maintain your Toyota vehicle properly if you make sure that you don't go too far over this mileage mark. In the event that you don't drive your vehicle often, you should still have these services done twice a year to make sure that you are properly maintaining the vehicle.

Type One services involve changing the oil and the oil filter, checking the fluid levels on the vehicle including transmission, power steering and antifreeze levels, hose and belt inspection, and tire pressure monitoring.

Keep in mind that vehicles that are properly maintained and have a recorded service schedule that is documented typically resell at a higher value.

Type Two Services

  • These services are recommended in addition to Type One services, and should be completed every 6,000 to 9,000 miles. This level of service requires all of the Type One services, plus tire rotation, brake inspection, tune-up, wheel alignment checks, and a full lube of the engine and working parts.

Car owners should budget for Type Two services, especially if they drive their car on a regular basis and put a lot of miles on it between services.

Type Three Services

  • Type Three services include Type One and Type Two services, plus spark plug replacement, fuel and air filter replacement, and a full vehicle inspection. This should be performed every 30,000 miles.

When utilized, this full-spectrum service will ensure that your vehicle is running properly and safely and can extend the life of your vehicle. Keep in mind that some Toyota warranties may require you to complete these services at the recommended intervals to keep your vehicle under warranty.

If you have any questions on your required service schedule, contact your local Toyota dealership or refer to your owner's manual and warranty documentation.
