How do I Reset the Maintenance Required Indicator on a 2000 Ford Explorer?

If your 2000 Ford Explorer is equipped with the message center, reset the maintenance message and set your oil change message interval using the control buttons under the display panel. Press and hold "Oil Change Reset." While the five-second counter is counting down, press "Reset." Press "Reset" again to exit. If you press any other button, the operation will abort and your reset will not be saved.

Oil Life Monitor Default

  • The oil life monitor defaults to 7,500 miles. After you reset the oil change message and it shows 100 percent oil life remaining, the monitor will display the next service alert message at 7,500 miles. If you carry heavy loads or tow with your Explorer and you need to observe the severe service oil-change interval of 3,000 miles, change the reset value to 40 percent. After you perform the oil change reset, press the "Oil Change Reset" button. The oil life value starts at 100 percent and steps down by 10 percent every time you press the button. When 40 percent is displayed, press "Reset" to lock in the value. You'll now get a service alert message at 3,000 miles instead of 7,500.
