Auto Insurance Claims: Value of R Titled vehicle, salvage title, insurance company

Question
In the state of PA, my 'R' Titled vehicle was parked and the street and struck by another car. The insurance company is saying it's totaled. The KBB value at lowest is still way more than they are offering me. Is there a way for me to dispute my cars value? I still owe on the car and after the amount they are saying I am in the hole the $500.00 deductible plus an additional $100.00. They were the initial insurance company when I purchased the car at $11,000.00. (car is a Honda 00' Civic w over 100G miles excellent shape. all the extras, 4 cyl.)

Answer
Hi Steve,

I assume that a "R" on the title means that it is a Rebuilt title. This also means that prior to being rebuilt the vehicle had been declared a total loss by an insurance company.  Vehicle that are totaled and rebuilt and have either a salvage title or a rebuilt title generally are only worth about 50% of a vehicle without those marks on the title.

What you paid for a car is not relevant. The insurance company will determine the value of the car on the day of the accident and will make deductions for condition, mileage and title history ("R").

I hope this helps
