Question -
My heater assembly doors that open manually (2000 4x4 ext cab) are jammed.  When I attempt to change the temperature knob, it clicks and I barely get heat. I only notice it now, at 5:30 am, however, winter is coming and I'd like to fix it myself.  The garage wants $800 for this repair.  It appears to be a time consuming event to unscrew and remove the dash, but I am willing to do it.  I won't know if the assembly is repairable, or just jammed on its own cable.  Any advice?

Answer
What was the LAST repair on the vehicle ?. ANY repair of any nature ?. In most cases problems that arise days, weeks or even months later can usually be traced back to the previous repair.

as to the temp knob on the control panel is there a CABLE that goes from the control to the damper door or does the temp knob electronically controlled, As in using an electrical wiring setup from the control panel to the damper door control ?>

Look under the dash and see if you can see any cables.

I need to know if the system uses CABLE or ELECTRical wires.

Usually you can see the ROD that is connected to the damper door to see if there is an electrical module attached to it or is there a CABLE attached to it ?.
