Car Alarms: car alarm, shock sensors, external shock

Question
QUESTION: My Ford 2004 Expedition has a factory installed alarm that I don't know how to adjust, when it thunders out or the garbage truck comes down the street it goes off, which is becoming a problem with my neighbors, please help to keep peace on the street.

ANSWER: Not a factory alarm issue here.
I suspect you mean a siren and flashing parking lights
when that occurs.

Factory alarms do not have external shock sensors.
There is a sensor under the dash that needs to be turned down or off. I suggest you run it over to an
after market stereo/alarm shop to have it
located, and then turned down or off.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Thank you for your prompt responce, but the alarm is the horn honking which I guess can not be turned down. If the alarm does not have external shock sensors, what is seting it off?

Answer
It's entirely possible the factory system may need
resetting, because if it were "normal", you can bang
all you want on the outer shell, and get nothing.

The "factory" alarm and the PATS (passive anti theft
system, would honk the car's horn and flash the
headlights.

It would also kill the fuel injectors,
and stop the engine from starting again
without the proper key code embeded in the igniton
key.

It's also entirely possible that the system
you are using could be an after market alarm,
installed by the dealership that first sold
the vehicle,
that is designed to honk the horn as well has
a siren output. Some lazy dealer/installers would
opt for the horn honk preference, so they would
not have to go through the fire wall and mount
and external siren.

I'd start at Ford. Let them explain it to you,
and how to disable it. If no joy, then
try the stereo/alarm guys near you, tell them
to check to locate the after market alarm, and
remove the shock sensor. Turning it down, may
not help in your situation/parking area.

Let me know what you discover.
