Car Alarms: valet switch, glove boxes, buick century

Question
QUESTION: I've recently bought a 1995 buick century. The car came with a prestige transmitter, but was not installed to the car. I looked up instructions to install it and it kept saying something about a valet switch. I have no idea where this switch is located, what it looks like or if my car even has one. Do you know if my car has one and where it my be located?
ANSWER: If you are saying the remote was not programmed to the alarm, then you would be looking for a valet/programming switch.  If the alarm was never installed, then you will not be able to find the switch.

Typically a decent installer will do what he/she can to hide the switch from plain view.  They are normally mounted on the driver's side of the vehicle in the kick panel area, but I have seen them all over the vehicle from inside glove boxes, to inside trunk compartments.  Here is a picture of what most Audiovox valet switches look like:

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Well I don't think the prestige remote originally came with the car. I also looked up the manual to the 95 century and it shows a picture of the remote transmitter, but it's not the prestige one. I also looked in the index for the valet switch, but there was nothing in there on it. So I guess it might be possible that my car does't have an alarm system. It is an old car.

All I really want to do is to have a remote to unlock and lock my car because it is such a pain to do it manually.

Answer
I think you may misunderstand.  The Audiovox remote would be an add on to the vehicle, completely independent of the factory keyless remote.

Do you have a small LED mounted somewhere in plain sight?  If you do this would be a good indicator of the Audiovox system actually being in the vehicle.  It is also possible that the fuses that supply the Audiovox have been removed because the previous owner lost the original Audiovox remote.  If you can, take down the dash panel under the steering column and see if you can find the fuse holders that would have been tapped in at the ignition harness.  If you find these wires, trace them back to the Audiovox brain and get the exact model number off it typically APSxxxx.  Once you have this information I may be able to point you in the direction of an installation manual that would tell you everything you would need to know about the system.
